SUNSET SONS

SUNSET SONS CAME INTO BEING IN 2012 WHEN RORY, PETE, JED AND ROB ENCOUNTERED EACH OTHER WHILST PURSUING THEIR LOVE OF SURFING IN THE SLEEPY FRENCH BEACH TOWN OF HOSSEGOR. DRUMMER JED CAME ACROSS FRONTMAN RORY HAMMERING OUT COVER VERSIONS ON A BAR PIANO, IN-BETWEEN STINTS POT-WASHING IN THE KITCHEN. THAT BAR, ‘LE SURFING’, HAPPENED TO BE OWNED BY AUSTRALIAN BASSIST PETE’S COUSIN, AND LENT ITS NAME TO SUNSET SONS’ SELF-FUNDED AND RELEASED DEBUT EP (RECORDED IN A DISUSED INDUSTRIAL KITCHEN IN JUST THREE DAYS). WHEN IT MADE THE ITUNES TOP 10 IN THE UK, WHERE THEY’D YET TO PLAY A GIG, LABELS CAME CALLING.
THREE HECTIC YEARS OF WRITING, RECORDING AND NEAR NON-STOP TOURING – INCLUDING SUPPORTING IMAGINE DRAGONS ON 36 ARENA DATES – HAVE TURNED THEM IN TO SEASONED MUSICIANS WHO HAVE TO SQUEEZE SURFING IN ON THE SIDE. STILL, YOU WON’T HEAR THE QUARTET COMPLAINING. SWAPPING WAVES FOR STAGES AND BEACHES FOR FIELDS, PLAYING WELL OVER 200 SHOWS IN THREE YEARS HAS TUNED SUNSET SONS IN TO ONE OF BRITAIN’S MOST EXCITING LIVE BANDS. THEIR ADDICTIVE DEBUT ALBUM, VERY RARELY SAY DIE, CAPTURES BOTH THE RAUCOUS SPIRIT OF THOSE LIVE SHOWS AND THE CAREFREE ATTITUDE THAT MADE THE FOUR FRIENDS IN THE FIRST PLACE.
